Commentary
Sooner or later in life each of us has to catch a train to the terminus
station.
This was written at a time when I feared the worst for someone....
All (except one) of the lines in this song rhyme with each other.
Wine spilt has left a vivid carpet stain.
With it your energy has begun to wane.
Lines
on your face demonstrate the strain
but please don’t catch the earlier train.
Please don’t catch the earlier train.
Yes I admit the sky bears all the signs of rain.
The
Sun has slid and hid behind the clouds again
but please don’t catch the earlier train.
We’ve climbed up to the hilltop, come down and explored the lane.
Now your feet are
blistered and it looks like you’re in pain.
You might even have acquired an ankle
sprain
but please don’t catch the earlier train.
Have we not found treasure to cherish and retain?
-
Robust this bond with a trust never in vain
so please don’t
catch the earlier train.
Please don’t catch the earlier train. It can leave without you.
Forgive me these words so clumsy and inane.
So much I hope to persuade you to remain.
This
line goes round and round and round inside my brain
Round and round and round and
round. Just please don’t catch the earlier train.
You’ve cared and helped more than you’ll ever know to keep me sane.
A friend who has
your strange name is my strange life’s greatest gain.
Dafter our laughter -
Just please don’t catch the earlier train.
