Commentary
A voice from beyond the grave....... Different people express their grief
in different ways. I was struck by the raw emotional power of how Nojit expressed
hers and I found myself imagining what it would be like for her if I died. I wrote
this song as a form of reassurance and encouragement for that time.
Learn to live again.
I know it won't be easy.
I can feel your pain
but breathe this air.
Look up at Jupiter & Mars.
I am not gone though I have changed.
I'm in the space between the stars.
You haven't brushed your hair.
You won't wave me off to work today,
knowing I cannot be there with you ever again
to hold you tight & close.
Reminded by your howls of grief
how you loved me beyond my belief,
privileged was I to share with you
a love that was so wide & full as this.
Wave me off for you've got work to do.
My sun has set but yours shall rise again for you
& when night comes,
let it take you outside your bars
& when you sleep you'll see me there
in the space between the stars.
Streams of tears redden your eyes
& stain the cheeks I used to stroke.
Sobs pulse through your tender breast
& quiver outwards through the lips I'll kiss no more.
Learn to live again.
I know it won't be easy.
I can feel your pain
but breathe this air.
Look up at Jupiter & Mars.
I am not gone but I have changed.
I'm in the space between the stars.
Who can know tomorrow's ways?
but we shall keep you in our gaze.
Biting winds & rainy days continue
but remember all this too shall pass.
