A Social Conscience? -
Worn out shoes, newspaper-
on cold feet, trudging pavements
hidden from the darkness
by this strange pinky-
Newer shoes on warmer feet
hurrying on their way.
These are mine.
I feel no guilt.
The problem is the world's.
It's too big for me to solve.
But I feel no guilt.
It's nothing to do with me.
I don't want to see
posters of starving children
a third world away
inbetween the posters for fine wines
and records.
That reminds me what I meant to buy
if I could just afford it.
Self-
at the end of the day.
Just one of millions
just about getting by
Never satisfied.
Never quite.
